Soil and Agroecological Education
To learn soils is to learn our world- how do we reach those who need soil and agricultural education the most?
Field Sciences
Well planned field work is the first step to a successful project. Often unpredictable, but even more frequently rewarding.

ABOUT
The First Question I Always Get is "Why Soil?"

Starting out life I wanted to be a chef; which I know sounds a little far from being a soil scientist- but being a chef turned into horticulture, which turned into agriculture, which turned into soil. As I deepened my studies in environmental sciences at Virginia Tech I grew increasingly in love with the world beneath our feet.
Endless curiosity about soil systems has led me many places- from across ancient red clays of the Southeast to the untamed tops of Rocky Mountains, and even across oceans to those highland peat bogs of Scotland. Whats more is that to me, being a soil scientist doesn't stop when you reach the grounds surface. Soil science goes into the wilderness that we adventure in, the agricultural systems that nourish us, and the communities that surround and support us everyday. Soil is more than just dirt- its soul.
